TNMU Doctor of Medical Sciences Awarded the Borys Paton Scholarship of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
On 17 September 2026, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Resolution “On the Awarding of the Borys Paton Scholarships of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 2026.”
In accordance with the Resolution, the Borys Paton Scholarship of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was awarded to Iryna Halabitska, Doctor of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor of the Department of Therapy and Family Medicine at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University.
The Borys Paton Scholarship of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was established to support young researchers, encourage their scientific activities, and create additional opportunities for conducting relevant fundamental and applied research. It is also aimed at preserving and developing Ukraine’s scientific potential.

The scholarship was awarded to support the research project “Drug Repurposing and Dietary Modification to Improve the Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in the Context of Metabolic Disorders.”
Iryna Halabitska’s research achievements are reflected in a number of publications in international scientific journals. In particular, in 2026, she co-authored the following articles: “War, Diet, and PTSD in Ukrainian Youth” in Scientific Reports (Q1); “The Hidden Burden of Water-Binding Additives in Meat Products: Biochemical, Clinical, and Psychosocial Implications” in Molecular Nutrition & Food Research (Q1); “Complex Interactions Between Stress, Nutrition, Gut Microbiota, and Infectious Diseases and Their Impact on Health in Global Conflicts: A Narrative Review” in Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry (Q1); “Implementing School-Based Nutrition Interventions in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Scoping Review of Implementation Strategies, Frameworks, and Outcomes” in Global Health Action (Q1); and “Metabolic Profiling of Healthy vs. Syndrome-Associated Obesity and Effects of Six-Month Metformin Therapy” in Acta Diabetologica (Q1).
The scholarship is awarded for a period of one year following a competitive selection of research projects submitted by young scientists who have significant scientific achievements and are conducting relevant research.
For TNMU, this is further evidence of the high level of research conducted by the University community and the significant contribution of its researchers to the advancement of modern medical science.
