A Modern Dermatoscope Purchased as Part of the Digi-CHange Erasmus+ KA2 CBHE Project
As part of the Digi-CHange project (“Digital Transformation and Curriculum Development for Healthcare Teams”) under the Erasmus+ KA2 CBHE programme, Ternopil National Medical University received funding to purchase modern medical equipment — a digital dermatoscope.

A dermatoscope is an important tool for non-invasive skin examination and detailed assessment of various skin lesions. Unlike a conventional visual examination, dermoscopy makes it possible to examine skin structures and lesions under high magnification and identify specific features that may not be visible to the naked eye.
The newly acquired equipment will be used in the educational process to develop students’ digital competencies and practical skills in performing dermoscopic examinations. During practical classes, students will have the opportunity to learn about the principles of dermatoscope operation, the specifics of examining skin lesions, and the main dermoscopic features of various pathological conditions.
To familiarise students with the capabilities of the new equipment, a presentation of the dermatoscope was organised. Andrii Sverstiuk, Professor of the Department of Medical Informatics, and Vitalii Hlushok, Associate Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology, Dermatology and Venereology, a full member of EADV, EADO, ISD and IDS, dermatologist, oncologist and dermatologic surgeon, introduced future doctors to the principles of operating the device and its potential applications in education and clinical practice.

The use of the dermatoscope will contribute to the development of digital skills in acquiring and analysing skin images. The practical competencies gained will be valuable for future doctors in various specialties, including dermatologists, oncologists, family physicians and general practitioners.

The modern equipment also creates opportunities to combine theoretical knowledge with practical training and bring the educational process closer to real-life professional medical practice. The acquisition of the dermatoscope is another step towards the digital transformation of medical education at TNMU, the modernisation of the university’s material and technical resources, and the introduction of advanced technologies into the training of healthcare professionals.
