The Day of the Ukrainian Language and Literature Was Held in TSMU

On  November 9 the students of groups 22 and 30 and the teachers of the Department of the Ukrainian Language of the Institute of Pathological Processes Simulation and Analysis of I.Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University organized a n event dedicated to native language. On its eve the TSMU youth expressed their creativity in designing the thematic mural newspapers, which now are in the department corridors of the campus at 7 Doroshenko Street.

Every year on November 9 the Day of the Ukrainian Language and Literature is celebrated in our country. The presidential decree “On the Day of Ukrainian writing and language” was issued in November 1997. This event was initiated by the Ukrainian Taras Shevchenko Society “Prosvita”.

During this event rising doctors presented their researches on influence of Surzhik (mixed Ukrainian and Russian languages) on our way of thinking and life. With accompaniment they recited poetry and works of famous Ukrainian writers, shared interesting facts about the Ukrainian language.

An international student Sarah Abouelkousine from Morocco also took part in this event. She has fluent Ukrainian. This girl also mentioned that she liked Lesia Ukrainka’s works very much.

At the end of the event the Head of the Institute of Pathological Processes Simulation and Analysis and the Associated Professor of the Department of Medical Physics of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Equipment Valerii Didukh recited his poetry to youth. They were about the necessity to preserve our native language. Our creative scientist shared the world of his lyrics to the students.

Language is not only a means of communication, it is something more important. A famous writer Alexandr Oles emphacised: “Language is all sides of the spiritual life of people, their historical memory, the most valuable heritage through the centuries; it is also music, melody, colours of life, people’s modern art and intellectual activities.”
