Open Day “The Formula of Choice,” or How 3D Technologies Are Transforming Medicine

On May 17, 2026, the Open Day event titled “The Formula of Choice” was held at Lesya Ukrainka Ternopil Educational Complex “General Education School – Medical Lyceum No. 15.” The event was a vivid example of how innovation helps school students take an informed step toward their future profession.

A major attraction for students and guests was the high-tech medicine station. It was professionally presented by Viktor Zavidniuk, a fifth-year student (Group 502) at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, which moved beyond theoretical explanations and provided lyceum students with a practical demonstration of the complete process of creating medical devices using modern technologies.

Participants had the opportunity to observe firsthand:

the 3D scanning process, demonstrating how anatomical objects are transferred into a digital format with high precision;

computer-based processing, including the principles of working with digital models, their modification, and adaptation to specific medical needs;

the 3D printing process, illustrating the basic principles of how printers transform virtual code into physical objects.

Particular interest among students and their parents was sparked by the presentation on the practical application of these innovations in real clinical practice. Viktor explained in detail how 3D modeling and printing are revolutionizing prosthetics, enabling the creation of individualized, lightweight, and perfectly fitted prosthetic devices that significantly improve patients’ quality of life.

To demonstrate that such technologies are both accessible and relevant, Viktor also spoke about integrating these innovations into the educational process at Ternopil National Medical University. Prospective applicants learned about the academic programs in which the fundamentals of 3D modeling are taught, as well as how university students gain hands-on experience working with modern medical software and equipment.

The event “The Formula of Choice” convincingly demonstrated to lyceum students that the modern physician is not only a specialist with profound medical knowledge, but also an innovator capable of working with advanced technologies.
