TNMU Rector and Students Take Part in Discussion of the New Civil Code of Ukraine with Ruslan Stefanchuk

On October 6, 2026, Ternopil hosted an important event as part of the “Parliamentary Dialogue” initiative, featuring the presentation and public discussion of the updated draft Civil Code of Ukraine. Petro Lykhatskyi, Rector of Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, actively participated in the event together with representatives of the University’s student community.

The professional discussion with Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, was also attended by TNMU young researchers and future healthcare professionals: Sofia Zborovska, Marta Pylypa, Anastasiia Hrekh, Yana Kolisnyk, Vladyslav Bohonos, Viktoriia Zavyslianska, Anastasiia Pryvrotska, Mykhailo Halei, Nazarii Bobko, Andrii Postol, and Daniil Barytskyi.

The medical university community was particularly interested in the proposed changes concerning reproductive rights and the use of assisted reproductive technologies. Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized that the key objective of the new version of the Code is to establish modern legal mechanisms for preserving the gene pool of the Ukrainian nation.

During the meeting, TNMU representatives had the opportunity to ask questions, share their views, and submit proposals regarding the draft law. Since the current Civil Code was adopted back in 2003, it is now essential to address new challenges, including digitalization, artificial intelligence, European integration, and the experience of the full-scale war. All these aspects require a fundamentally new approach.

Representatives of the academic community of Ternopil universities, public officials, legal professionals, and members of the regional community also took part in the discussion.

The draft of the new Civil Code, which was adopted in the first reading with the support of 254 members of parliament, is currently undergoing substantial revision. Proposals received during regional meetings will be taken into account in further work on the document.
