ТNMU representatives took part in the international Training of Trainers for the Erasmus+ “Digi-Change” project in Italy
From October 6 to 9, 2026, an international Training of Trainers (ToT) was held in Turin and Milan (Italy) as part of the implementation of the Erasmus+ Digi-CHange project “Digital Transformation and Curriculum Development for Healthcare Teams” (grant agreement No. 101233888).
Representatives of Ternopil National Medical University took part in the training, including Professor Andrii Sverstiuk of the Department of Medical Informatics, Dmytro Vakulenko, Head of the Department of Medical Informatics, and Associate Professor Oksana Bahrii-Zaiats of the Department of Medical Physics of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Equipment.
The training program was devoted to developing the digital competencies of faculty members, implementing telemedicine, and using artificial intelligence and modern digital technologies in medical education and clinical practice.
On the first day, training sessions were held at Villa La Sorridente (Infor ELEA). Participants discussed the social significance of telemedicine and the possibilities of using the latest healthcare technologies, particularly in remote regions.

During a training visit to the Candiolo Cancer Institute (INOC), participants were introduced to the organization of the medical institution’s work, its clinical research directions, and the application of artificial intelligence in medicine. Particular attention was paid to the use of information systems and the analysis of medical data in research and clinical activities.

The Training of Trainers session the following day focused on the practical application of telemedicine technologies and artificial intelligence. Participants visited the Carlo Besta Neurological Institute (Istituto Neurologico “Carlo Besta”, Fondazione IRCCS) and the multidisciplinary hospital ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda in Milan. The visits to these medical institutions were aimed at exploring the use of digital technologies in modern clinical practice.

The Training of Trainers session on October 8 was held at SAA (Italian: Scuola di Amministrazione Aziendale, English: School of Management), a leading business school and part of the University of Turin (Università degli Studi di Torino – UniTo), covering a wide range of digital medicine topics. The thematic presentations addressed the application of artificial intelligence in medicine, digital imaging in biomedicine, bioinformatics, PET/CT technologies, the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), and the Artificial Intelligence of Medical Things (AIoMT). Special attention was given to diagnostic algorithms in digital pathology, the integration of telemedicine technologies, telemonitoring, and remote diagnostics in medicine. Participants discussed approaches to building competencies in digital health.

Modern digital health technologies and international cooperation were discussed on October 9. In particular, during a presentation by the company MultiMed, participants were introduced to medical and telemedicine technologies using the example of the portable device TytoCare https://www.tytocare.com/ for remote patient examination. A separate presentation was devoted to international cooperation and experience in organizing telemedicine services in France and Italy.

The final part of the program included an assessment of the training results, a discussion of further project activities, and pedagogical approaches to teaching digital technologies in medicine.

Participation in the training contributes to expanding the professional competencies of TNMU faculty members in the field of digital health and to familiarizing them with European experience in integrating innovative technologies into medical education. The knowledge gained will be used to update educational components and conduct training activities aimed at improving the digital competencies of faculty members and students of higher medical education.
The participation of TNMU representatives in the event took place within the framework of the international Erasmus+ Digi-CHange project “Digital Transformation and Curriculum Development for Healthcare Teams,” which supports the digital transformation of medical education. The project is funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ program.
