TNMU professors took part in the Congress of the European Academy of Pediatrics
On September 19-22, 2019, EAP (European Academy of Pediatrics) 2019 Congress and MasterCourse took place in Porto (Portugal).
The event was attended by over 1500 participants from around the world. The Ukrainian delegation was one of the largest, comprising scientists and practitioners from different parts of Ukraine (Kyiv, Lviv, Chernihiv, Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Odessa). The Head of the Department of Pediatric Diseases and Pediatric Surgery, Professor Oksana Boiarchuk, Associate Professors of this department Tetiana Hariian and Svitlana Nykytiuk, and TNMU student Diana Haliiash presented I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University at the Congress.
The workshop was dedicated to the nutrition of children and adolescents. Moreover, the participants discussed the issues of feedings in children with allergies and the risk of their development, allergy to cow milk and protein lactose intolerance, modern approaches to enteral and parenteral nutrition, nutrition in inflammatory bowel diseases. The topics of childhood obesity and the factors influencing it have been discussed too.
A series of lectures were delivered by leading nutritionists and gastroenterologists from the world (B. Koletzko, Germany; J. A. Dias, Portugal; S. Kolaček, Croatia; R. A. Thomassen, Norway, etc.), and case studies were discussed in small groups, where everyone had the opportunity to express their opinions.

The problems raised at the Congress concerned important issues in all sections of pediatrics: neonatology, nutrition, respiratory pathology, gastroenterology, allergology, immunology, infectious diseases, endocrinology, pediatrics, neurology, emergency medicine, and immunization.
Teachers of the Department of Pediatric Diseases and Pediatric Surgery presented 3 reports (short oral presentation) at the Congress:
– Professor Oksana Boiarchuk, presented a collective report (co-authored by Tetiana Hariian, Mariia Kinash, Liubov Volianska, Liubov Dmytrash, Olha Rusanovska, Tetiana Kovalchuk), “Improving the diagnosis of primary immunodeficiencies through the implementation of educational programs”;
– Associate Professor Tetiana Hariian (co-author: Oksana Boiarchuk, Liubov Dmytrash) – “Physical development of children with Nijmegen syndrome”;
– Associate Professor Svitlana Nykytiuk (co-author: Serhii Klymniuk, Stepan Podobivskyi, Nataliia Haliiash) – “Lyme borreliosis in children of Ternopil region”.
The participants are grateful to the University Administration for the opportunity to take part in the Congress and present the results of their own research.
