TNMU Partners from the USA Transferred Financial Aid for the Second Time
For more than two months, Ukraine has been fighting bravely against Russian invaders. Since the beginning of the war, Volunteer Centre of Ternopil National Medical University has successfully functioned, receiving support from everywhere. For the second time, our long-time partners – the leaders of IGeneX Inc. and ID-FISH Technology Inc. laboratories (Milpitas, USA) Sudhir and Jyotsna Shah donated $ 10,000 to the Centre’s charity account.
IGeneX Inc. and ID-FISH Technology Inc. are leading US laboratories for the study and diagnosis of Lyme borreliosis and other tick-borne infections. In the United States alone, about 300,000 patients are registered each year, and in Europe – up to 85,000. The incidence rate in various European countries ranges from 9-10 cases per 100,000 population (Poland, Belarus) to 35 (Lithuania), 100 or more (Slovenia).
Cooperation of TNMU with “IGeneX Inc.” and ID-FISH Technology Inc. began in 2016 with the study of the problem of Lyme borreliosis in forestry workers of Ternopil region. At the initiative of the staff of these laboratories, the blood serum of more than 400 people at risk for specific antibodies to Lyme borreliosis and B. miyomatoi, one of the pathogens of febrile borreliosis, was tested free of charge. The results of joint research are reflected in the reports of scientists from TNMU Department of Infectious Diseases and laboratory staff at international conferences in France (Paris, 2017) and the United States (Boston, 2017; Chicago, 2019).
In 2018, the leaders of laboratories Sudhir and Jotsna Shah visited TNMU on a friendly visit, during which an agreement on further scientific cooperation was signed.
We are deeply grateful to IGeneX Inc. and ID-FISH Technology for their precious assistance.
