TNMU Took All Precautions for Protection of Students and Staff
Dear teachers, students and applicants!
Today, all applicants and students are curious about the organization of the teaching process at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University during this academic year. We cannot clearly say when the war will stop, but we are convinced that Ukraine needs young highly qualified specialists who will take responsibility for the development of our country. Ukraine, more than ever, needs wise, well-educated, proactive specialists, particularly in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, physical therapy and occupational therapy, and public health. We believe that these should be people who are guided by values and dedication to the Motherland in all their actions and decision-making. The university is flexible in the development of various variants of events, relying on several scenarios in its activities, and continues a full-fledged educational life for the better fulfilment of TNMU’s mission and goals. In this academic year, we will carry out the teaching process in the traditional off-line format. Medical specialties involve mastering practical skills and obtaining the necessary experience in the actual presence of students and teachers. The two previous years, in the conditions of the pandemic, did not give our students the opportunity to get a education like they used to before.
In this academic year, TNMU took maximum care of the protection of students and teachers by organizing shelters in every building. All of them were additionally equipped, repaired and strengthened, checked and approved for use by the commission with the participation of representatives of the State Emergency Service, who are responsible for civil protection of the population, specialists of the department of juvenile prevention of the National Police in the Ternopil region.
TNMU operates three certified radiation-proof shelters at Ruska Street, 12 (Morphological Building), Maidan Voli, 1 (Administrative Building), Slovatskyi Street, 2 (Biological Building). There are also shelters in other academic buildings – at Olena Teliha Street, 3 and 7 (Centre for Medical Simulation and Faculty of Dentistry), Ruska, 36 (Faculty of Pharmacy), Kotsiubynskyi Street, 3 (Institute of Nursing), basements in the dormitories. Classes conducted by the department at the academic building at Doroshenko Street, 8 will take place online. All clinical facilities of the university, where practical training of students takes place, have shelters too.
All shelters are equipped with telephone connection, exhaust ventilation, two entrances/exits, access to toilets and water, lighting, fire extinguishers, fire alarm. “Traffic directions” signs are installed at the entrances and exits. Responsible persons are assigned to each shelter, and those on duty and commandants have been briefed on actions in the event of an “Air Alarm” signal.
Unlike many educational institutions in Ukraine, Ternopil National Medical University is located as far as possible from hostilities and has the opportunity to carry out the teaching process entirety off-line. We are ready to pass on our knowledge and experience to you, because right now education is more important than ever.
