Professors of TNMU Participated in the 16th International Congress of the European Association of Neonatology and Perinatology

On May 26–30, 2026, the 16th International Congress of the European Association of Neonatology and Perinatology “Do’s & Don’ts: Best Practice in Neonatology” was held in Bratislava, Slovakia. The main goal of the Congress was to optimize the care of preterm infants through a multidisciplinary integrated approach to follow-up observation and monitoring, as well as to implement measures aimed at improving the health of both infants and their families. Specialists from more than 100 countries participated in the Congress.

Ukraine was represented by the President of the Ukrainian Association of Neonatologists, Professor T.K. Znamenska, members of the Association’s board, and professors of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, Professor Halyna Pavlyshyn and Professor Iryna Sarapuk.

The scientific program of the 16th International Congress included presentations by Professor Halyna Pavlyshyn entitled “Neonatal Stress – Why It Appears and How to Deal with It” and Professor Iryna Sarapuk entitled “Determinants of Maternal Worry and Stress in Neonatal Intensive Care Settings”.

Special attention at the Congress was paid to improving outcomes in the care of preterm infants, creating a supportive environment for the smallest babies in intensive care units, reducing neonatal stress and pain, and ensuring optimal discharge management for this category of patients. Experts in these fields, Professor Marsha Campbell and Professor Pierre Kuhn, presented best practices for overcoming stress in intensive care settings among parents, infants, and healthcare teams.

The Congress also presented findings on the long-term outcomes of preterm infant care, the impact of these outcomes on families and the educational process, and, most importantly, ways to improve neurodevelopmental status, ensure healthier lives, and support the future prospects of individuals born prematurely into adulthood.

The participants express their sincere gratitude to the administration of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and to Professor Petro Lykhatskyi for their support and the opportunity to participate in the 16th International Congress of the European Association of Neonatology and Perinatology “Do’s & Don’ts: Best Practice in Neonatology” and to present the results of their scientific research at this international forum.
