A joint research project between scientists of Ternopil State Medical University and the Institute of Rural Health (Lublin, Poland)

For four days, from November 26 to 29, 2017, two TSMU researchers, assistant professor of the department of infectious disease Mariia Shkilna, and leading specialist of TSMU interdisciplinary research clinical laboratory Olha Marchuk, together with specialists of Ternopil Regional Laboratory Center of Ministry of Health Volodymyr Panychev and Anatolii Dautov visited the Institute of Rural Health in Lublin, Poland. TSMU continues to study epidemiology, medical signs and prevention of Lyme disease among forestry workers of Khmelnitskyi region

On December 1, 2017, a working group of scientists from the department of infectious diseases of the Ternopil State Medical University journeyed to Khmelnitsky region. Their goal was to survey forestry workers in this region to assess their understanding of epidemiology, major clinical manifestations and prevention of Lyme borreliosis, and to conduct clinical and laboratory tests for the presence of Borrelia type bacteria among this group. TSMU continues the large-scale study of epidemiology, prevention and treatment of Lyme disease

On September 25-28, 2017, a group of scientists of TSMU’s Department of Infectious Diseases visited forestry workers of Zakarpatska region. The visit had two main goals: first, to assess how much the foresters know about epidemiology, main clinical signs and prevention of Lyme borreliosis, and second, to test for Lyme infection across this professional group. On July 17, 2017 Ternopil State Medical University held a press conference on a topical issue, the incidence of Lyme borreliosis and other infectious diseases transmitted by ticks in Ternopil region. TSMU researchers started working on epidemiology, symptoms and prevention of Lyme borreliosis disease in different regions of Ukraine

On June 20-23, 2017, a group of researchers from Ternopil State Medical University Department of Infectious Diseases went on field trips to Zhytomyr region and Ternopil military unit В1428. The visits helped to assess awareness of Lyme borreliosis, in particular its epidemiology, major clinical signs and prevention, among risk groups (foresters and servicemen), and carry out clinical and laboratory studies to detect Lyme borreliosis in these populations.
