I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University is one of 10 universities in Ukraine joining the SAIUP project (Strengthening Academic Integrity in Ukraine Project). This project is facilitated by the American Councils for International Education involving the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the supported by the United States Embassy (http://www.saiup.org.ua/pro-proekt/).
The aim of this project is to support the idea of integrity and decent relationships between the members of educational institutions academic process, to promote the practical value and importance of academic integrity. The project should be implemented within a four-year time that allows covering a full cycle of bachelor’s studies.
The implementation of academic integrity principles into Ukrainian institutions of higher education is a matter of higher education quality increase, development of the reputational capital of the universities, their rating improvement, recognizing university diplomas in Europe and world as well as rise of the competitiveness of these universities graduates. Therefore, it is important to inform the university community about the importance of implementation and promotion of the principles of academic integrity within the learning process and research affairs. Qualitative changes in higher education would contribute to development of new social values and the TNMU graduates, students and teaching staff would promote them.
Within the Strengthening Academic Integrity in Ukraine Project, the university students, teachers and other staff are offered to deepen their knowledge and improve skills in the basic principles of Academic Integrity as well as a strategy for these principles implementation in their university.
The SAIUP project is crucial for transformation of Ukrainian society – by changing the higher education, it strengthens social values that would be promoted by the universities graduates and students.
In order to achieve these goals, the US Councils and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine take into account the common experience of Ukraine, the USA and other countries.
The resource partners of the project are Fairfield University, Connecticut, Federation of Employers of Ukraine, Ukrainian Student Self-Government Association, Pro.Mova Expert Company, CEDOS Analytical Centre, Microsoft Ukraine, National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
