Students of Ternopil State Medical University participated the IX International Christian Medical Conference for Students

The IX International Christian Medical Students Conference (ICMA) took place in Vinnytsia on October 12-14, 2018 . This event was organized by the International Christian Medical Association in Ukraine (icmau.com). ICMA coordinators in Ternopil are TSMU students Idowu Gideon Oluwatobi, Bray Isaac, Agaren Daniel, Okoye Gloria, and Bakare Sandra.

This year’s conference was attended by more than 300 participants from different universities of Ukraine (Kyiv, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Chernivtsi, and Sumy). They had the opportunity to present their research. In addition, the students attended four master classes in various fields of medicine, which was attended by 15 invited experienced teachers from 12 countries. Including:
– Erin Arant, USA / Ukraine – Integrating the Principles of Professional Therapy into Your Practice to Improve Patient-Centric Care Quality (Practicing Quality of Patient Centered Care);
– Martin Bac, University of Pretoria, South Africa – How to Organize Medical Aid During an Emergency;
– Janet Gallaher, England – What is a Good Doctor?;
– Ruslan Kharkovenko, Ukraine – Problem Based Learning, Choosing Your Medical Specialty;

– Ifeanyi Onah, Nigeria – Management of Acute Injuries of the Hand;
– Rick Paul, the Netherlands – Swellings in the neck: How to make a correct diagnosis;
– Jim Peipon, USA / Ukraine – The Pediatric Otoscopic Exam;
– Grace Petkovic, UK – What is the embryo? Does it matter? Ethics around the beginning of life;
– Olena Pokryshko, Ukraine – Bacterial Diarrheal Infections and Their Laboratory Diagnosis;
– Carol Rowley, USA – ECG interpretation;

– Yulia Starodubets, Kyrgyzstan – First Aid in Critical Situations;
– Joe Watson, the UK – Medical Humanitarianism: An Overview of Key Debates and Questions;
– Nancy Wespetal, USA / Ukraine – Pain in the joints: the reason they come;
– Manfred Wieser, Austria – Sexual Transmitted Diseases – Challenge for a Physician / Patient;
– Heather Haywood, Scotland – Caring for care.

Students of TSMU International Students’ took an active role in the work of ICMA. Several of them presented their research papers. For example, fifth year student Ozioma Chinonye Nwosu presented her work Assessment of Neonatal Pain, sixth year students Chinelo Amauche Ashara spoke about Childhood Acquired Methemoglobinemia, and Bray Isaac gave a talk on The Quality of Life Assessment for Young People with Chronic Renal Failure.

In addition, they placed third in the International Talent Contest. Oluwatosin Felix Ogunlade, Toluwalade Oluwapelumi Fatunde, Happy Abiola Hunyinbo, and Bray Isaac presented a dance composition.
