TNMU Professor Participated in the IX International Congress on Tuberculosis Diagnosis and Treatment

On December 3, 2024, the IX International Congress on Tuberculosis Diagnosis and Treatment, titled “Polish and Ukrainian Fight Against Tuberculosis – Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”, was held in Krakow, Poland (IX Zjazd Diagnozujących i Leczących Gruźlicę o charakterze międzynarodowym pt. “Polskie i Ukraińskie zmagania z gruźlicą – wczoraj, dziś i jutro”). TNMU Professor Leonid Hryshchuk of the Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine and Phthisiology Department participated in the event.

The congress brought together representatives of international organizations, Polish healthcare institutions, specialists in infectious disease surveillance, and experts from Poland and Ukraine engaged in combating tuberculosis. Key topics discussed included timely diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis among Ukrainian refugees.

Highlights of the presentations included:

  • Dr. Agnieszka Zygmunt, Head of the Tuberculosis and Pulmonary Diseases Department at the Lung Disease Hospital in Jaroszowiec, detailed Poland’s tuberculosis control plan. She emphasized financial needs, infrastructure, and organizational and service adjustments required to address tuberculosis outbreaks.
  • Professor Roman Nowobilski (Department of Rehabilitation in Internal Diseases, Jagiellonian University, Medical College) presented “Analysis of Polish-Ukrainian Efforts in Tuberculosis Control” (“Refleksje dotyczące polsko-ukraińskiej walki z gruźlicą”).
  • Dr. Ivanna Mazur (Ternopil Regional Phthisiopulmonology Center) delivered a report on “Tuberculosis Treatment in Ukraine: Practical Insights.”

Professor Leonid Hryshchuk presented “Yesterday, Today, and Proposals for Collaboration on Tuberculosis Eradication in Europe, Poland, and Ukraine.”

Professor Hryshchuk expressed sincere gratitude to Krzysztof Grzesik, Director of the Edmund Wojtyła Lesser Poland Hospital for Pulmonary Diseases and Rehabilitation, and his team for their invitation and support during his visit to Poland.
