An Ecological and Local History Event Dedicated to Rivne Region at the Department of Physiology with the Basics of Bioethics and Biosafety

A traditional ecological and local history event, this time dedicated to the Rivne region, was held at the Department of Physiology with the Basics of Bioethics and Biosafety on the eve of the 110th anniversary of the Battle of Makivka Mountain.

“April 29 marks 110 years since the legendary Battle of Makivka began,” said Professor Stepan Vadziuk, Head of the Department, as he opened the meeting with students from his academic groups. The event was devoted to honoring a pivotal moment in Ukraine’s early 20th-century struggle for independence. The battle lasted until May 4, 1915. It was not only an episode of World War I but also a symbol of heroism, patriotism, and national awakening.

From April 29 to May 4, 1915, Ukrainian Sich Riflemen held off a powerful offensive by significantly larger forces of the Russian Imperial Army. Thanks to strategic insight, courage, and incredible unity, the riflemen not only endured but also thwarted the enemy’s breakthrough on the Carpathian front. This battle demonstrated that Ukrainians were capable of organized, disciplined resistance and were ready to defend their identity with arms in hand. A new national consciousness was born on the frontlines. The enemy witnessed a spirit that could not be subdued by fire or numbers.

A new app has been launched in Ukraine, enabling people to adopt shelter animals with just one click. This important initiative helps stray animals find loving homes and promotes a culture of responsible pet ownership.

Another story focuses on a priest who embodies the spirit of a true warrior. His prayers spiritually support our soldiers, while he personally engages in volunteer work, helping the army both in word and deed.”

As Professor Vadziuk summarized, “Today, as we again face times of trial and must defend our independence, the experience of the Makivka riflemen is more than just a historical fact — it is a source of inspiration and moral strength. Their example reminds us that history is made by those with a clear purpose and a deep sense of duty to their nation. Let us study, remember, and cherish our history and our land — not merely as textbook material, but as the foundation of our dignity and future.”
