The 22nd All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation “Modern Trends and Prospects for the Development of Higher Medical (Pharmaceutical) Education in Ukraine” at TNMU

On May 22–23, 2025, over 300 participants took part in the 22nd All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference with international participation, “Modern Trends and Prospects for the Development of Higher Medical (Pharmaceutical) Education in Ukraine.” The event was hosted by I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University and conducted via the Microsoft Teams platform, with simultaneous streaming on YouTube.

The conference was opened by the Head of the Organizing Committee, TNMU Rector Professor Mykhailo Korda. In his welcoming address, he emphasized the importance of finding new solutions for the development of medical and pharmaceutical education in the face of modern challenges. Professor Korda highlighted that continuous curriculum renewal, the implementation of digital tools, interdisciplinary integration, and the assurance of academic integrity are key factors in shaping a competitive professional in the healthcare sector.

The two-day conference program included plenary and sectional sessions, as well as poster presentations, showcasing over 80 contributions. Participants from various Ukrainian medical and pharmaceutical institutions discussed key challenges and opportunities for advancing educational programs, implementing innovative teaching methods, and enhancing the overall quality of higher medical education.

The topics of the presentations covered the following main areas:

Development and enhancement of educational programs:

  • Implementation of a competency-based approach in the educational process
  • Public discussion and renewal of educational content
  • Development of educational components
  • Experience in interdisciplinary integration in professional training

Quality assurance in education:

  • Internal quality assurance systems in higher education institutions
  • Surveys, questionnaires, and self-assessment as tools for improving quality
  • Academic integrity and its impact on the reputation and effectiveness of the educational process

Innovative teaching approaches:

  • Use of artificial intelligence, simulation technologies, and mind mapping
  • Digitalization and distance learning
  • Application of visualization tools, video hosting, and interactive platforms

Teaching excellence and professional development:

  • Organization of training centers
  • Peer education as a form of mentorship
  • Skills enhancement through simulation training and online hubs

Motivation and psycho-emotional state of students:

  • Adaptation to learning during wartime
  • Development of leadership potential
  • Implementation of mindfulness approaches and prevention of emotional burnout

Professional training and clinical practice:

  • Development of practical skills through OSCEs, training sessions, and clinical case studies
  • Simulation-based education for doctors and pharmacists
  • Modern approaches to teaching clinical disciplines

The second day of the conference was devoted to poster sessions, covering additional aspects of methodological support, student scientific initiatives, internationalization of the educational process, and the use of interactive learning tools.

The event demonstrated a high level of interest among the academic community in improving medical and pharmaceutical education in Ukraine. It emphasized the need for the continuous modernization of educational approaches, strengthening cooperation among educational institutions, and actively engaging students and stakeholders in shaping a high-quality educational environment.
