Lectures and Practical Sessions by TNMU’s Partner from Belgium

On May 28–29, 2025, Piet Stevens, TNMU’s partner from Belgium and the founder and visionary behind Ceriter—a company that produces smart insoles—visited Ternopil National Medical University.

Piet Stevens delivered theoretical material during a lecture for students of the bachelor’s and master’s “Physical Therapy” programs, as well as for students of the “Prosthetics and Orthotics” program. He also conducted practical sessions with future physical therapists on the use of smart insoles.

There is currently a significant demand in Ukraine for high-quality rehabilitation services, particularly for patients after amputations. During the first four months of 2025, the state-funded prosthetics program enabled around 37,000 Ukrainians to receive prosthetic limbs, including over 2,250 individuals in Ternopil Oblast (according to the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine).

The process of selecting, adjusting to, and becoming accustomed to a prosthesis requires substantial effort, a well-trained team, and time. Ceriter’s smart insoles significantly accelerate the recovery of proper gait patterns for each patient and simplify the work of physical therapists and rehabilitation specialists.

Experts from the Department of Medical Rehabilitation at TNMU have been working with smart insoles for over six months and note their reliability and effectiveness.

We express our sincere gratitude to Piet Stevens for his valuable contribution to the training of future physical therapists and prosthetists-orthotists, as well as to the restoration of the health of the Ukrainian nation.
