A Course Based on the mhGAP Program Has Been Introduced into the TNMU Curriculum
With the beginning of the academic year, the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology, and Medical Psychology of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University has implemented a course based on the mhGAP program. This initiative, supported by the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, aims to integrate mental health into medical education.

The mhGAP program was developed by the WHO to train healthcare workers to identify and treat mental, neurological, and substance use disorders in non-specialized medical facilities. It includes educational materials designed to improve the quality of care for patients with mental disorders.

The implementation of this program into the TNMU educational process is an important step in preparing future medical professionals to work with patients with mental disorders and helps reduce the “treatment gap” in this field.

Currently, students of the department are actively mastering the new course, which includes both theoretical and practical classes. We are pleased to share with you some photos from our classes so that you can see how we are moving together towards a better understanding and support of mental health.
