TNMU Provides Free Dental Care to Servicemen for the Second Consecutive Year

For the second year in a row, the dental department of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University has been providing free dental care to combatants, persons with disabilities caused by war, foreign citizens serving under contract, and released prisoners of war. Over the past year, 1,356 servicemen have received dental treatment, including 161 who were provided with dental prosthetics.

The TNMU Dental Department operates under two main National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU) projects — dental prosthetics and dental treatment. The team providing dental care to servicemen includes:
Volodymyr Machohan – Head of the Department
Svitlana Rosolovska – Orthopedic Dentist
Anna Vorobets – Orthopedic Dentist
Oksana Petryk – Therapeutic Dentist
Khrystyna Loza – Oral Surgeon

According to the head of the dental department, Volodymyr Machohan, the department has been operating since 2016. From the very beginning, its specialists started offering free dental care to ATO veterans. All procedures were funded by the university, which supplied the basic dental materials. The doctors volunteered their time, purchased additional materials at their own expense, and involved dental interns in the work.

In April 2024, the TNMU Dental Department signed a contract with the NHSU to provide dental prosthetic services for servicemen, and in July — for dental treatment. This made it possible to expand the scope of assistance and secure funding through state mechanisms.

On their own initiative, the following faculty members also assist in treating servicemen:
Liudmyla Pyasetska – Associate Professor, Department of Orthopedic Dentistry
Halyna Stoikevych – Associate Professor, Department of Postgraduate Dentistry
Iryna Antonyshyn – Associate Professor, Department of Therapeutic Dentistry
Nataliia Hutor – Associate Professor, Department of Surgical Dentistry

At TNMU, free dental prosthetic services are available to:
– combatants;
– persons with disabilities caused by war;
– servicemen.

To receive services, applicants must provide copies and originals of the following documents:
– Ukrainian citizen’s passport;
– taxpayer identification number;
– certificate (combatant / person with war-related disability / war participant certificate and/or military ID for enlisted, sergeant, or senior ranks).

Servicemen who are not currently on leave may also receive a referral from their unit commander for dental treatment or prosthetics.
