TNMU and the Heart Institute of Ukraine Signed a Memorandum of Cooperation
On October 31, 2025, the well-known cardiac surgeon and General Director of the Heart Institute of Ukraine, Professor Borys Todurov, together with his team, visited I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University. The meeting with Acting Rector of TNMU, Professor Mykhailo Korda, and the university administration was also attended by the Deputy Head of the Ternopil Regional Military Administration, Volodymyr Vasylenko. The discussion focused on the development of cardiac surgery and transplantology in Ukraine.

The visit resulted in the signing of a memorandum of scientific and educational cooperation between Ternopil National Medical University, represented by Mykhailo Korda, and the Heart Institute, represented by Borys Todurov.

The document envisions expanding partnerships between the institutions in the field of cardiac surgery, promoting the exchange of experience between researchers and practitioners, and creating conditions for the professional development of future doctors.
One of the key areas of cooperation will be organizing educational trips for senior TNMU students to the Heart Institute, where future physicians will be able to observe the work of a high-tech cardiac surgery center, learn about advanced techniques in surgical treatment of cardiovascular diseases, and communicate with leading specialists in the field.
It is worth noting that TNMU had similar experience before the pandemic. Such visits motivated students to study diligently and pursue their chosen specialties.
According to Rector Mykhailo Korda, the signing of the memorandum opens new opportunities for students and researchers of the university:
“We strive to ensure that our students not only receive quality theoretical training but also witness how modern medical technologies are applied in practice. Such visits will help young doctors choose their future specialization and inspire them to pursue cardiac surgery and dedicate themselves to saving human hearts.”

Professor Borys Todurov emphasized that the Heart Institute is always open to cooperation with Ukrainian medical universities:
“We are interested in nurturing a new generation of doctors who will continue the traditions of Ukrainian cardiac surgery. The doors of the Heart Institute are open to young people who seek knowledge and professional growth,” said Professor Todurov.
The signing of the memorandum became an important step in strengthening cooperation between medical education and practical healthcare, aimed at training highly qualified professionals and enhancing Ukraine’s healthcare system.
During the visit, Mykhailo Todurov and his team also had an opportunity to learn more about the work of the TNMU Simulation Training Center.
