Event on the Occasion of the International Day for Tolerance for Students of the Institute of Nursing
The International Day for Tolerance is observed annually on November 16 and was established in 1995 by UNESCO. On this day, the Declaration of Principles on Tolerance was adopted, affirming equality for all people regardless of race, gender, language, nationality, religion, or health status.
For the students of the Institute of Nursing, an event dedicated to the Day for Tolerance was organized on November 17, 2025. The speakers were:
- Taras Piatkovskyi – Head of the Center for Combating Discrimination and Harassment, Associate Professor of the Department of Microbiology, Virology, and Immunology;
- Yanina Chaikivska – Press Secretary of TNMU, Associate Expert at the East Asia Bureau of the Globalistics Center “Strategy XXI”.
Taras Piatkovskyi introduced participants to the concept of tolerance and the relevant legal provisions. He spoke in detail about the work of the TNMU Center for Combating Discrimination and Harassment, whose mission is to prevent violations of tolerance or discrimination at the university and to assist members of the educational community in cases of such incidents. He also addressed the topic of gender equality in terms of legislation. Participants showed great interest in the real cases resolved with the support of the Center’s staff. In addition, Taras Piatkovskyi explained the procedure for submitting and reviewing reports of bullying, discrimination, and harassment.

Yanina Chaikivska shared practical advice on how to verify the credibility of online media and distinguish a licensed publication—for instance, by the presence of a journalist’s license, contact information, and other indicators. She spoke about the forms of discrimination, the concept of aggression, its levels, methods of addressing it, constructive conflict resolution, and effective communication. She also discussed the availability of professional assistance in complex situations. Together with participants, she reviewed the importance of tolerant attitudes toward others and the most common misconceptions about the meaning of tolerance.

In a discussion format, real-life situations related to discrimination and bullying and ways to resolve them were examined.
The event helped foster tolerant and conscious attitudes toward diversity, increased students’ awareness of human rights protection, and emphasized the importance of respect within the academic environment.
