Lecture “How to Speak the Language of Science: Academic Writing for Everyone”

At the initiative of the Student Scientific Society, a lecture entitled “How to Speak the Language of Science: Academic Writing for Everyone” was held on February 4, 2026. The event focused on the fundamentals of scientific communication and academic writing.

The speaker was Ihor Drach, Deputy Dean of the Medical Faculty and Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language at TNMU. He shared both practical and theoretical aspects of creating a high-quality scientific text. The lecture brought together students and young researchers interested in improving their writing skills and preparing scientific papers.

The topic’s relevance is linked to the upcoming registration for the 30th anniversary Congress of Students and Young Scientists “The Future Belongs to Science,” making the issue of scientific writing particularly important.

During the lecture, Ihor Drach emphasized that academic writing is not only a tool for conveying knowledge but also a specific way of thinking that enables clear structuring of information, logical argumentation, and persuasive presentation of research results. Participants became familiar with the key features of academic style—precision, coherence, consistency, and well-founded reasoning.

Special attention was paid to common mistakes in scientific texts, including inappropriate or excessive use of terminology, lack of clear structure, overloaded sentences, and overly complicated presentation of the author’s ideas. The audience also received practical advice on working with a text, from formulating a research problem to editing, stylistic refinement, and checking the work for academic integrity.

The event became an important step in preparing higher education students for active participation in scientific life. The lecture helped participants realize that high-quality academic writing is not merely a formal requirement but an essential component of a successful scientific career.

The Student Scientific Society sincerely thanks Ihor Drach for the informative lecture and all participants for their engagement and interest. Many more exciting scientific events are ahead!
