On the 212th Anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s Birth
On March 9, we mark 212 years since the birth of a person whose name has become for Ukrainians not just a part of history, but a true genetic code. Taras Shevchenko is not only a portrait on embroidered towels or a bronze statue frozen in time. He is a living energy of resistance, which today, in times of great trials, resonates more relevantly than ever.
His words, “Fight – and you will overcome!”, have become the main slogan of our time, and his vision of a free Ukraine remains our daily goal. Despite the centuries that separate us, the Kobzar remains a contemporary, the first to speak of the Ukrainian people’s right to dignity, language, and statehood.
Associate Professor of Ukrainian Language Iryna Zalipska, together with students of the MM-106 curator group, organized an educational event titled “Why the Enemy Fears the Kobzar: The Power of the Ukrainian Word.”
- Inna Multan presented information about the greatness of Taras Shevchenko.
- Oleksiy Dolynnyi spoke about the Kobzar and Ternopil region.
- Kateryna Zayats discussed Shevchenko as an artist.
- Anna Kovtunovska dispelled myths about the poet.
Additionally, students recited Shevchenko’s poems, including:
- Irena Danylchuk – “And of gold and precious”
- Sofiya Sahaidak – “Days pass, nights pass…”
- Oleksandra Kolpak – “Kateryna”
- Ulyana Dovhan – “A cloud sails after the sun”
- Alina Berlinets – “Testament”
Taras Shevchenko remains not just a page in literary history, but the living voice of Ukrainian freedom, echoing in the hearts of every generation.
