TNMU Students Joined the Celebration of Brain Awareness Week in Ukraine

On March 20, 2026, a medical student of TNMU, Bohdan Savchuk (group MM-212), under the supervision of Professor of the Department of Medical Biochemistry Olha Yaremchuk, delivered a lecture titled “Neurochemistry of Emotions” for 11th-grade students of the hub lyceum in the village of Zymne, Volyn region, as part of Brain Awareness Week in Ukraine.

The aim of the event was to increase students’ awareness of the mechanisms underlying emotions and the influence of hormones and neurotransmitters on behavior, mood, and cognitive processes.

During the lecture, the student noted: “Understanding your own emotions helps not only in everyday life but also in learning. For example, if you know why you feel anxious, it is easier to stay calm and maintain concentration.”

The students learned how serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and oxytocin affect mood, motivation, and behavior, as well as how an imbalance of these substances can alter human responses.

Particular attention was paid to the connection between emotions and cognitive processes. The student explained how emotional states can either enhance or reduce concentration, influence decision-making, and affect learning efficiency. He also shared practical advice on how to regulate one’s emotional state in order to reduce stress and stay calm during preparation for and completion of the NMT.

The knowledge gained will help high school students better understand their emotions, manage stress more effectively, improve concentration during learning, and develop emotional intelligence, which is important not only for passing the NMT but also for achieving success in life.
