A Joint Ukrainian and Polish Project “Research on Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, Management and Prevention of Borreliosis” Has Started at TSMU

The cooperation takes place as a part of EU research projects between scientists from the Pope John Paul II State School of Higher Education in Biala Podlaska, Poland and I.Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University.

Сlinical and laboratory investigations for Lyme disease agent in woodmen and hunters of Ternopil region is the main directions of the project cooperation.

The researchers of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology, Dermatology and Venereology of I.Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University together with colleagues from Poland have developed a standardized questionnaire survey to study the epidemiology, clinical manifestations and methods for prevention of borreliosis in woodmen and hunters of Ternopil region and Lublin province of Poland.

The rising dermatologists-interns of the Ternopil Regional Clinical STD clinic, Pryshliak Iryna, Olha Pryshliak, Iryna Zaborna, Viktoria Nakutna, Kateryna Yavorska participanted in the project.

The blood tests for laboratory investigations on borreliosis pathogen in woodmen of Ternopil region were made together with the questionnaire survey.

The results of questionnaires and laboratory investigations on Lyme disease agent in woodmen of our region after processing by the department staff will be sent to the researchers of the Pope John Paul II State School of Higher Education in Biala Podlaska for the implementation of the next stage of the project.
