Interactive Training Was Held in TSMU

A training programme due to the implementation of the elective course in post-traumatic stress disorder “Nurses Initiative for Alleviation of Personal Trauma” was held in Ternopil State Medical University. It is supported by the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine.

At first the participants of this event studied fundamentals of diagnostics and prevention of the patients suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and the significance of nurses in the mental recovery of these patients and those with heavy stress. On January 20 in the yard of the Academic and Research Institute of Nursing of TSMU an interactive training on rescue, medical and psychological assistance arrangement to the wounded in gas explosion at school was held together with the emergency service and the Regional Department of Emergencies, the Regional Office of Preventive Measures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The script was like in the disaster film when rescue team, doctors and police have to rescue those who have suffered in the case of an emergency. The students of TSMU skilfully played all possible mental disorders in such cases.

After the training, all participants gathered in the lecture hall of the Academic and Research Institute of Nursing to discuss the types of mental disorders and assistance of all services at each rescue stage. The participants had an opportunity to learn more about the work of psychological service of State Emergency Service and some useful advice by experienced specialists.

The teachers of medical schools, volunteers, social workers and students had an opportunity to talk to psychologists involved in the rehabilitation of ATO soldiers. They learned how to communicate with these soldiers. The coordinator of the Center of Psychological Aid “Krok Vpered (Conciliatory Gesture)” gestalt therapist Liubov Medved expanded on this matter. She also defined the probable menace for nurses when dealing with such patients.

All psychiatrists and psychologists emphasized that first of all nurses should create harmony in their lives; solve their personal problems in time. The experts noted that a doctor or nurse can help other people only if they have their own personal values, when their families are happy, friendly and self-confident, and they rest enough.
