TNMU hosted Scientific-Applied Symposium with international participation “Prevention and risk factors of neurological, mental and narcological disorders”

On October 3-4, 2019, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University hosted Scientific-Applied Symposium with the international participation “Prevention and risk factors of neurological, mental and narcological disorders”.

It has become a professional platform for a diverse professional dialogue of neurologists, psychiatrists, narcologists and specialists in related specialties, covering a wide range of issues and topics, explaining the main achievements of neuroscience.

The Symposium was attended by almost six hundred specialists in psychiatry, neurology and narcology from all over Ukraine and abroad. Its participants were welcomed by representatives of State Institution “Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry and Narcology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”, Public Organization “Association of Neurologists, Psychiatrists and Narcologists of Ukraine” (Prof. Linskyi I. V., Prof. Maruta N. O.), Head of Ternopil Oblast Council Ovcharuk V. V., Rector of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, Prof. Korda M. M., Director of Health Care Department of Ternopil Regional State Administration Bohaichuk V. H., Deputy Director of Health Care Department of Kharkiv Regional State Administration Kufterina N. S., leader of Ukrainian-Polish partnership Krzysztof Nazimek and others.

As part of the Symposium, 2 plenary sessions, 10 sectional meetings, 2 roundtables and ESO-EAST, ANGELS Steering Committee meetings were held, with 98 presentations.

During the Symposium, the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the system of psychoneurological care of Ternopil and to visit the Ternopil Regional Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital.

The issues discussed by the Symposium participants were aimed at improving the prevention of nervous, psychiatric and narcological disorders and early identification of risk factors for this pathology.

The main aspects covered at the conference were: primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of neurological, psychiatric and narcological disorders in Ukraine, based on evidentiary principles; effective models of prevention in major pathologies (stroke, cerebrovascular disorders, dementia, depression, schizophrenia, PTSD, bipolar affective disorder, chemical and non-chemical dependencies, etc.); risk factors for neuropsychiatric disorders (hereditary, biological, environmental, and others); prevention of medical and psychological consequences of armed conflicts in Ukraine; using international experience of early intervention in neurological, mental and narcological diseases; extension of scientific researches defining the main directions of prevention in neurosciences.

The Symposium was organized by the State Institution «Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry and Narcology of NAMS of Ukraine», Public Organization «Association of Neurologists, Psychiatrists and Narcologists of Ukraine», I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, Kharkiv National Medical University, V. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Ternopil Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital.
