TNMU teachers study English within the framework of the Medical Education Development Project

I.Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University participates in the project “Medical Education Development” in two directions – general practice – family medicine and nursing training.

This project was started by the Swiss Institute of Tropical Medicine and Public Health (Swiss TPH) with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Its main objective is to assist universities in implementing educational innovations within the framework of medical education reform of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The project is aimed at medical universities, where future general practitioners and family medicine doctors, as well as the heads of primary care facilities, are educated. Moreover, the project is designed for medical educational institutions for nurses – schools, colleges, faculties, nursing institutes.

As part of this project, TNMU teachers are steadily raising their English skills. The main purpose of such training is:

– to strengthen the teaching abilities of the university staff;

– to develope the language skills of teachers involved in the implementation of the project, in order to communicate with foreign colleagues and curators of the project;

– to assist in learning a foreign language in accordance with the “Regulations on the certification of teaching staff”;

– by teaching English, to help in mastering medicine better, because the main medical resources are in English;

– to train of a highly-qualified modern clinician, because only the best doctors should teach students in order to ensure high quality of education.

All these aspects will help to achieve the main goal of the project – providing quality medical care to the population.

The course is taught in two groups by a level of English proficiency – beginner level and advanced study (teachers, mostly with B2 level).

English course will be held throughout the year.
