International Mother Language Day at TNMU
Language is the spiritual treasure of any nation. It’s not just a means of communication between humans, it’s something that lives in our hearts. This is what we get with maternal heat. This is what fascinates us with its sound. This is what inspires us. This is what makes us smile.
Today, there are nearly 6,000 languages in the world, but 2 languages are disappearing every month. It is believed that in the 21st century, at least 40% of languages can disappear from the world linguistic map. In order to support linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism, 30th General Assembly of UNESCO resolved that “21st February be proclaimed International Mother Language Day”.
On February 21, 2020, teaching staff of TNMU Department of the Ukrainian Language organized events to celebrate this holiday. They were attended by students of the Faculty of Medicine and International Students’ Faculty.
On this day, poetic Ukrainian words sounded in the walls of our university. Students of the speciality “Physical Therapy” joined the celebrations. In addition, students of International Students’ Faculty presented poems and songs in their own languages, including Polish, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Yoruba, Igbo, Arabic, Siperi, Tvi, Amharic, Kannada, Malayalam.
Students of the group IM-264 also participated in the quiz about Ukrainian language.
Every human being must honor and love their mother tongue, care for it, protect it, reveal its greatness and mighty power, because there is only one mother tingue we have!
