International Students of TNMU Organized a Webinar on the Importance of Mental Health
The students of I. H Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University have always been active and proactive. Due to the pandemic, today it is very difficult to organize cultural, educational events, or charities. However, the experience of working online was not in vain. On the World Mental Health Day, which is celebrated annually by the world community on October 10, the representatives of international faculties and members of the MedGRADiENT Scientific and Practical Society Prajval Gangappa Tippanavar and Mohamed Shumael Khan organized a webinar “Don’t let your struggle become your identity” on the problems of youth and their mental health during the coronavirus pandemic. The idea was supported by the university, in particular by the Department of Psychiatry, Addiction and Medical Psychology and specialists of the Centre for Psychological Support of TNMU. Tetiana Husieva, Assistant Professor of the department and an expert of the centre, was the presenter of the online event. She presented a report on “Why mental health is important?”.
In total, 34 international students and 8 Ukrainian students took part in this webinar. Each participant of the event received a certificate.
Young people were interested in the ways of optimizing of education, organizing free time, attitude towards their health, development of stress resistance to life changes, relationship problems. During the conversation with Tetiana Husieva with the students the main components of mental health and well-being, how to achieve harmony between these components were discussed. The meeting took place on the ZOOM platform. Oleksandr Mud and Sushil Kumar Mehta were the most active during this discussion.
“We all know and feel what it is life in a pandemic. In our opinion, humanity will not return to the usual rhythm of life, as it was before. Due to limited trips, communication, many people lose their peace of mind. This is one of the reasons why we decided to organize such a webinar,” the organizers said.
The Mental Health Day has been initiated by the United Nations since 1992 at the initiative of the World Mental Health Federation.
