TNMU Students Won in 12 Categories in the International Online Olympiad “Samarkand – 2020”

The International Online Olympiad for students of higher institutions for medical education “Samarkand – 2020” is an educational event aimed at promoting knowledge in various fields of medicine, as well as basic sciences, increasing interest in educational activities and science, creating opportunities for students to present their scientific and creative potential. It should be noted that Samarkand State Medical University has been a partner of Ternopil National Medical University for many years.

This year the Olympiad in Samarkand took place on December 11-12, 2020. It was attended by more than 700 students from different countries. The languages ​​of the event were Uzbek, Russian, French, German and English.

According to the results of the International Student Olympiad “Samarkand 2020” the students of Ternopil National Medical University won 12 prizes (2 – the first, 1 – the second, 3 – the third, 6 – in other nominations).

All participants had to complete tasks in two stages. The first stage consisted of test questions. Each participant answered in the language indicated in the application. The students, who received the highest number of points and spent the least amount of time solving test tasks, were admitted to the second stage.

The second stage covered fundamental disciplines and was carried out by brainstorming for practical skills and a way to solve clinical situations. Students had to clearly and specifically describe the clinical situation or answer questions on the ZOOM platform.

 

TNMU students represented our university worthily and won many prizes. Yulia Pravak (Faculty of Medicine, fifth year of study) won the first prize in Pediatrics; Yulia Vyshnevska (Faculty of Medicine, sixth year of study) – in Infectious Diseases, Alina Diadenchuk (Faculty of Medicine, fourth year of study) was the second in Pathological Physiology, and Tatiana Stakhiv (Faculty of Medicine, fifth year of study) – the third place in the same field; Anatoliy Bilousov (Faculty of Medicine, sixth year of study) – the third in Surgery, as well as Victoria Kovalyuk (Faculty of Medicine, fifth year of study) – in anesthesiology; Zakhar Onyschuk, a fifth-year medical student majoring in anesthesiology, was the best in his nomination.

A number of students also won in the nominations of Surgical Dentistry – Yaryna Tylchak (Faculty of Dentistry, fifth year of study), Dental Therapy – Snizhana Kovenko (Faculty of Dentistry, fifth year of study), Dental Orthopedics – Bohdanna Pashchuk (Faculty of Dentistry, fifth year of study), Anatomy – Dmytro Koval (Faculty of Medicine, third year of study), Physiology – Anna-Maria Kazak (Faculty of Medicine, third year of study).

The Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Svitlana Boitsaniuk congratulated the students on their richly deserved victory. Svitlana Ivanivna added that future dentists were eager to compete in knowledge and skills with representatives of other universities. Their victory proves a high quality of educational services in TNMU.

“We are are so close to the international level. Tanya Stakhiv, a sixth-year student, was the third in Pathological Physiology of the International Olympiad in Samarkand. 2.5 years ago she was the second in the National Olympiad. In Samarkand we have a double success. Also, another fourth-year student of our faculty Alina Dyadenchuk won the second prize. Thus, the students of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University engaged almost the whole pedestal. A tetanic work, self-belief and responsibility always precede the Victory. Congratulations to the winners and Alma Mater!” Maria Khara, the Professor of the Department of Pathophysiology, shared the joy for her students.

Dmytro Koval, a third-year student, noted that there were 266 participants in the Anatomy section. He won in the nomination “Scientific approach to problem solving. “I am grateful all the staff of the Department of Normal Human Anatomy, in particular Professor Illia Yevgenovych Herasymiuk, the Head of the department, Ivan Vasyliovych Pylypko and Taras Yaroslavovych Stravskyi, Assistant Professors of the department.

Petro Lykhatskyi, the Dean of the Faculty, congratulated the students of the Faculty of Medicine. He noted that student youth of TNMU has always been active, ambitious and strong-willed. For many years, raising doctors have won many prizes during at the National Olympiads. This time, by a large number of participants from our university, they proved that they are among the best once again.
