Associate Professor of TNMU Olha Kostiv: Lifelong Learning is a Conscious Choice
The world is changing all the time, technologies and new inventions are developing as well as new opportunities. So should a person have only university knowledge? Adjusting to new information is an important condition for social life. The world leading countries change their treatment methods adhering to the concept of lifelong learning. The administration of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University always tries to help students, interns and teachers to continue their studies, research and inventive activities, develop professionally and become highly qualified doctors. Training at the Ternopil Centre for European Education in Anaesthesiology is a great opportunity for doctors to improve skills and develop professionally.
Olha Kostiv, the Associate Professor of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care of TNMU, a member of the Association of the NGO of Anesthesiologists of Ternopil Region, said that the Ternopil Centre for European Education in Anesthesiology is aimed at achieving the highest principles and safety standards in anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, intensive care, emergency care and anesthesia by improving the quality of treatment and, consequently, education, research and continuous professional development.
“The profession of anaesthesiologist has expanded from simple anaesthesia and preservation of vital functions during surgery to the determination of perioperative risks, intra- and postoperative therapy. To meet modernity means to set new tasks, to see new horizons. The new concept of perioperative medicine goes beyond our “classical” idea of anaesthesia,” said Olha Ihorivna.
The Centre for European Education in Anaesthesiology (CEEA) in Ternopil is one of four training centres in Ukraine and the only one in the western region, more than 60 in the world. CEEA was established in 1986 as the foundation of European education in anaesthesiology. For more than 30 years, thousands of doctors from around the world have completed the courses.
The training includes six separate cycles, after which each participant takes exams and receives participation certificates. If participants already have six certificates, they exchange them for an international CEEA certificate, which is recognized worldwide.
The updated CEEA course now covers all areas of anesthesiology, intensive care, emergency medicine and pain management. Students of the courses acquire both theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills in these fields. Among the teachers of the course are top experts in anesthesiology, intensive care, neurologists, neurosurgeons from different regions of Ukraine and other countries.
The most competent teachers of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University deliver lectures during the courses: Professor Svitlana Shkrobot, the Head of the Department of Neurology; Oksana Shevchuk, the Associate Professor of the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology; Professor Volodymyr Hnativ, the Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care; Professor Halyna Pavlyshyn, the Head of the Department of Pediatrics No.2; Olha Kostiv, the Associate Professor of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care.
The pandemic has caused significant changes in education during 2020 worldwide. Ternopil Centre for European Education in Anesthesiology has also adjusted to the new reality, now training is held distantly.
Do not be afraid to expand your knowledge, open new horizons and achieve goals, make learning a useful habit.
