Workshop on “Cardiovascular System” Took Place within the TNMU Student Project
On March 20, 2021 a workshop on “Cardiovascular system” was held within the MedGRADiENT student project of Ternopil National Medical University. The students of 1st-3rd courses had the opportunity to study in detail the structure of heart tissue. This workshop took place at the Department of Anatomy, located in the morphological building of TNMU. The organizers appreciate the assistance of Professor Illia Herasymiuk, the head of the department.
28 students were selected for a detailed study of the cardiovascular system. The organizers received more than a hundred on-line applications. Unfortunately, the quarantine does not allow involving a large number of people, but the project team plans to hold this workshop for all the applicants during this semester.
The training was divided into three different parts. The first covered the theory, during which all the participants repeated and better studied the thoracic anatomy and the cardiovascular system structure. During the second part, some clinical scenarios of thoracic trauma were introduced to the students and they discussed cases of “Lumbar disc Herniation” and “Blunt Chest Trauma”. The third part was the most interesting and exciting, because future doctors practiced heart dissection. Pork hearts were purchased especially for this.
The students developed their skills of opening this organ and had the opportunity to thoroughly study its structure from the outside and inside. The participants were divided into four groups. Scalpels were provided for each of them.
This workshop was delivered by Tippannavar Prajwal Gangappa (group 342), Khan Mohammed Shumayel Athar (group 430), Nana Kwame Appiah Nkansah Denis (group 430) and guided by of Dr. Olena Pokryshko and Mrs. Yanina Chaikivska.
