Lectures Regarding the World Health Day were Held at TNMU
Every year on April 7, the international community celebrates World Health Day. Its aim is to share information on prevention and treatment of the most common disorders.
Thus the Department of Psychiatry, Addiction and Medical Psychology of Ternopil National Medical University together with the Centre for Educational Work and Cultural Development and the team of the Outlook Student Vlog organized a series of online lectures for students on mental health during the pandemic.
During the event, the head of the department, doctor of medical sciences, Professor Olena Petrivna Venher delivered a lecture on “Professional burnout”. She spoke about the features of burnout syndrome and shared practical tips for its prevention. As shown by numerous studies in different countries around the world, burnout develops even in senior medical students. Constant communication with patients and their relatives, a continuous circle of complex human problems, negative emotions, fear, pain, as well as a sense of responsibility for life and recovery of patients, high competence and constant professional self-improvement all are reasons why health care workers are so vulnerable to emotional burnout. Olena Petrivna talked to students and shared methods of fighting this problem.
Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Yurii Ihorovych Mysula talked to students on “Stress and stress resistance”. The well-being and emotional recovery of health workers is a priority, as these components are the key to their health, and thus to the health and quality of health care provided to the public during a COVID-19 outbreak. Therefore, it is extremely important to anticipate the stresses associated with professional responsibilities and develop support for health professionals. Yuriy Ihorovych shared interesting information about the significance of stress in our lives and recommendations on how to deal with it.
Assistant Professor of the department Tetiana Ivanivna Ivanytska delivered a lecture on “Digital addictions”. She emphasized the urgency of this issue during the pandemic, talked about the neurobiological basis of this dependence, and shared methods of “digital detox”.
The event was very interesting for the students also because of a friendly, informal atmosphere covering it. The highlighted topics are really urgent for future doctors and their need to adjust to a pandemic. Participants discussed the issues covered. In total, more than 100 students took part in the lectures.
Students Yuliia Bandrivska, Daryna Shandruk and Anhelina Trachuk joined the organization of the event.
The Department of Psychiatry, Addiction and Medical Psychology congratulates you on the World Health Day: “We wish you prosperity, success, physical and mental well-being!”
