TNMU Institute of Tutoring Expands Its Areas of Work

The institute of tutoring was initiated at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University a few months ago in order to improve students’ knowledge and skills. A tutor is a mentor or assistant who helps and cares for others. Tutoring is an officially recognized component of the British education system and today it is a matter of prestige for universities of Europe, the United States and Canada. Its main principle is that the best representatives of the student community help others in learning and self-education.

Initially, the institute of tutoring was established at TNMU within the MedGradient student project for international students. The PowerSTEP team decided to support this initiative and extend it to the Ukrainian students of our university. The project leaders are Andrii Kondratyshyn (group MM-312), Maksym Fik (group MM-312). The organizing committee involves Ihor Nychai (group MM-306), Mariana Reshitnyk (group MM-303), Taras Kashuba (group MM-314), Dmytro Koval (group MM-308).

The young people started with helping younger students prepare for the Step 1 exam. The team of like-minded people analyses the questions from the test booklets, the answer options and explains them, organizes educational video lectures on the most important subject topics, discusses the problems that arise in the learning process, and finds ways to solve them.

All these events take place in a secure Telegram chat. More than 140 students, 10 of them from other universities, are willing to improve their knowledge. Every day, the organizing committee receives new requests to add to this chat, to study together and prepare for the licensing Step 1 exam effectively. Tests analysis and educational video lectures are recorded; it simplifies watching and provides re-viewing.

The PowerSTEP team is working persistently to expand its tutoring activities.
