TNMU Interns are Among the Best in Ukraine in the Step 3 Examination
The official website of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported that 90.3% of interns have successfully passed the Step 3 exam in General Medicine. In total, 6682 interns were passing this exam; 54.5% of them studied within state-funding and 45.5% – at the individual expense or of legal entities. The Licensed Integrated Exam Step 3 was organized by the Centre for Independent Testing of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on March 30, 2021. The interns of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University are among those with the highest results in this exam. The representatives of M. Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Bukovynian State Medical University, Dnipropetrovsk State Medical University, Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University also have high marks.
“The quarantine restrictions and introduction of distance learning did not affect the results of the exam. In 2019, 25.7% of interns failed the exam, in 2020 – 13.2%, and in 2021 – 9.7%,” said Iryna Mykychak, the Deputy Minister of Healthcare.
The exam was held in 21 institutions of higher and postgraduate education, which provide interns training programs. 18 institutions are subordinated by the Ministry of Healthcare, 2 – by the Ministry of Education and Science, and 1 of them is a private institution of higher education.
The examination is for interns of 31 internship specialties. The largest number of them studied in the following specialties: Internal Medicine (1131 interns) – 16.9%; General Practice of Family Medicine (610 interns) – 9.1%; Obstetrics and Gynaecology (608 interns) – 9.1%; Surgery (563 interns) – 8.4%; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (484 interns) – 7.2%; Dermatovenereology (376 interns) – 5.6%; Radiology (336 interns) – 5.0%. The least number of interns were in the specialties of Microbiology and Virology (4 interns), General Hygiene (3 interns),”Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (2 interns).
