The Conference “Current Trends in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Standardization of Medicines” Joined World Scientists

For two days, on May 25-26, 2021, the International Research and Training Conference “Current Trends in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Standardization of Medicines” was held in I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University. The event was organized by the Department of Pharmachemistry of TNMU.

Due to the global pandemic and the challenging epidemiological situation in the region, the meeting of scientists took place online.

153 scientists from different parts of Ukraine and the world joined it, i.e.: Lviv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Odessa, Rivne, Lutsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, New Delhi (India), Athens (Greece), Chieti (Italy), Mansouri, Cairo, Menufi (Egypt), Braunschweig (Germany), Baltimore (USA). During the meeting, 26 scientific reports were presented and discussed and a master class was held as well.

Professor Ivan Klishch, the Vice-Rector for Research, welcomed the conference participants.

Professor Lilia Lohoida, the Head of the Department of Pharmachemistry of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, opened the plenary session, welcomed the conference guests and expressed gratitude for their interest in development of pharmaceutical chemistry and standardization of medicines.

Professor Roman Lesyk, the Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical, Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry of Danylo Halytskyi Lviv National Medical University, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Doctor Honoris Causa of Karol Marcinkowski Medical University of Poznan, State Laureate Award in Science and Technology (2020), World’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University, presented a report on “5-En-4-thiazolidinones as acceptors of Michael. Pains or drug-like structures?”

The report of Imran Ali, Professor of Chemistry of the National Islamic University, Delhi, India (Jamia Millia Islamia (A Central University)), World’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University, on “New generation nano anticancer drugs: Need of this century” was very interesting for the conference participants.

Professor Oleksandr Hryzodub, Director of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Scientific Pharmacopoeial Centre for Drug Quality”, presented a report on “20 years of the State Pharmacopoeia of Ukraine. The main achievements and prospects of development”.

The report by Anna Tsantili, Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of Capodistria National University of Athens, Greece, on “Perspectives of biochromatography for modeling adme properties and ecotoxicity indices in early drug discovery process and in environmental sciences” was really exciting for the participants of the conference.

Professor Serhiy Sur, the Director on Interaction with Regulatory Bodies of Arterium Corporation, expanded on current problems of pharmaceutical market of Ukraine.

Marcello Locatelli, Professor of Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry of the University of D’Annunzio, Chieta (Italy), presented a report on “Innovative procedure applied in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Standardization of Medicines: current trends and future perspectives”.

Hussein I. El-Subbagh, Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Mansour (Egypt), expressed gratitude to Professor Lilia Lohoida for organizing the conference and reported on “Dihydrofolate reductase as antitumor molecular target”.

Sami Eldeeb, Professor of Pharmachemistry of the Technical University of Braunschweig (Germany), presented the report on “Study of molecular and biomolecular binding interaction using affinity capillary electrophoresis and microscale thermophoresis”.

The report by Khalid B. Selim, Professor of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Mansour (Egypt), on “Design, synthesis and docking study of novel kinase inhibitors as anticancer agents” was very interesting for the conference participants.

Serhii Merzlikin, Professor of the Department of Analytical Chemistry and Analytical Toxicology of the National University of Pharmacy, presented a report on “Development of domestic antidiabetic drugs: achievements and prospects”.

Report on “Bioanalytical method development; secrets of sample preparation” was presented by Mamdouh R. Rezk, Professor of the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Cairo University (Egypt).

The report by Ahmed M. Abdelmegied, Professor of Analytical Chemistry of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (USA), on “Lithium-enhanced mass spectrometry for untargeted shotgun lipidomics: analysis of sphingolipids” was really interesting for the participants of the conference.

Professor Valentyn Chebanov, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, First Deputy Director General of the State Scientific Institution “Scientific and Technological Complex” Institute of Single Crystals” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine”, Head of the Department of Applied Chemistry of V. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Laureate of the State Prize in Science and Technology (2020), presented the report on “Switchable multicomponent heterocyclizations under non-classical methods of activation”.

The report on “Multi-informative analysis of fingerprints by laser technology” was presented by Hytham Ahmed, Professor of the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Menufiya (Egypt).

The plenary session with the report “Antitumor potential of substituted 6-oxo (Thioxo) -6,7-dihydro-2H- [1,2,4] triazino [2,3-C] quinazolin-2-onics” was held by Professor Serhii Kovalenko, the Head Department of Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry, Zaporizhzhia State Medical University.

Professor Viktoria Heorgiiants, the Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of the National University of Pharmacy, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, expanded on ensuring the quality of medicines manufactured in pharmacies as well as world trends and techniques of Ukraine.

The report by Professor Lilia Lohoida, the Head of the Department of Pharmachemistry of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, on “Development of original combinations of antihypertensive agents, their analysis and standardization” caused great scientific interest of the audience.

Andriy Lozynsky, the Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical, Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry of Danylo Halytskyi Lviv National Medical University, started the section meeting with a report on “Synthesis of new thiopyrano [2,3-d] thiazole derivatives based on 1,4-naphthoquinine as dienophiles”.

Viktor Stavytskyi, the Assistant Professor of Organic and Bioorganic Chemistryof Zaporizhzhia State Medical University presented the report on “Directed search for contraceptives in a number of pyrrolo (pyrido) [1,2-A] triazolo (triazino) [C] quinazolines”.

Alyona Savych, the Associate Professor of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Medical Botany of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, expanded on “Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry as a method of analysis of a number of biologically active substances in plant mixtures”.

Kateryna Peleshok, the Assistant Professor of the Department of Pharmachemistry of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, reported on “Method of development for the quantitative determination of valsartan from caco-2 cell monolayers”.

Viktoria Protsiuk, the Assistant Professor of the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University presented a report on “Study of the antifungal properties of new synthetic derivatives of 6-oxo-5,6-dihydrothiazolo [2,3-b] [2,3,4] triazole- 5-yl) acetamide”.

Olena Kholodniak, a PhD student of the Department of Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry of Zaporizhzhia State Medical University, presented the report on “N-(R-Carbamothioyl) cycloalkylcarboxamides: synthesis, modification, physicochemical and biological properties”.

Ihor Yushin, a PhD student of the Department of Pharmaceutical, Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, expanded on the synthesis and chemical transformations of new thiazolidinones as potential biologically active compounds.

Natalia Yelaghina, Rivne Medical Academy, expanded on “Water status in fungi amanita musscaria and their composite system 1: 9 with hydrocompacted nanosilica dioxyde A-300”.

The report on “LC-MS/MS Method development of the determination of metoprolol and meldonium in human plasma” was presented by Mariana Horyn, the Laboratory Assistant of the Department of Pharmachemistry of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University.

Professor Oleksandr Hryzodub, the Director of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Scientific Pharmacopoeial Centre for Quality of Medicines” shared his experience and gave an interesting, informative master class on “Standardized procedures for validation of drug quality control methods: basic principles”.

At the end of the International Research and Training Conference “Current trends in pharmaceutical chemistry and standardization of medicines”, Professor Lilia Lohoida summed up the plenary and sectional meetings, expressed gratitude to the university management, all lecturers and participants of the scientific forum for their contribution.

The videoconference format of the conference allowed not only presenting the scientific achievements of the participants, but also at the same time was a platform for scientific discussion, joint viewing and fruitful debate of videos and presentations.
