Automated External Defibrillator is Available in TNMU
The security service, a safety engineer managed by the Commandant of the administrative building of Ternopil National Medical University trained in resuscitation by means of an automated external defibrillator and management of massive external extremity bleeding. They developed their practical first aid skills under supervision of Olha Prokhorenko, the Assistant Professor of the Department of Disaster and Military Medicine, an ERC instructor. All participants successfully passed the life-saving tests.

Now, an automated external defibrillator, turnstile and AMBU bag with a face mask and antibacterial filter are available in the administrative building of TNMU.

“Our university was the first in Ternopil providing an automated external defibrillator. It is a device that can be used to save the life of a person whose heart suddenly stopped. Everyone can experience sudden cardiac arrest for a number of reasons. According to world data as well as the National Resuscitation Council, timely assistance saves lives in more than 60% of such cases. Making this device available in the building gives a chance to everyone working, studying or just in business, to be saved if necessary,” said Professor Arsen Hudyma, the head of the Department of Disaster and Military Medicine.

During the training, the staff of security and other services of the administrative building learned to recognize a person in life-threatening condition, feasibility of using an automated external defibrillator, and developed first aid skills.
