TNMU Dentist Students have Passed OSCE Attestation Exams

On June 10-17, 2021, the certification of graduates of the Faculty of Dentistry and the International Students Faculty in the Dentistry specialty was held in I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University.

According to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 334 “On approval of the Procedure for the Unified State Qualification Exam for applicants for master’s degree in Health Care”, dated March 28, 2018 (as amended); the Standard of Higher Education of Ukraine in the Dentistry specialty for the second (master’s) level of higher education, the certification of graduates was conducted in the form of an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE), as the second stage of USQE.

The aim of this exam is to assess the results of graduates’ training regarding performing their professional duties in accordance with the requirements of the Standard of Higher Education by demonstrating the practical (clinical) components of professional competence on a real object or model. The OSCE as a component of the graduates attestation checks the readiness of graduates regarding their expertise in dental therapy, dental surgery, orthopaedic dentistry and paediatric dentistry.

OSCE was held in phantom classes and clinical halls of specialized departments of the Faculty of Dentistry. The duration of the task at each station was 10 minutes, the interval between stations – 1 minute. The exam took place in specially equipped premises ˗ Station”. During the exam there was a constant CCTV monitoring.

The exam started with a greetings by the Chairman of the Examination Commission, explanation of the regulations, rules of the OSCE, exam format, instruction for passing stations, assigning an individual student identification number, issuance and registration of the route.

All the students of a group took the exam at the same time, but there could be only one student at each station. At the same time, they passed the same tests with a consecutive passing from station to station by an individual route.

The maximum score for the task at the OSCE station was 5 points. OSCE is completed if the student after passing all the stations scores at least 60% of the maximum points that is 36 points.

According to the results of the second stage of the Unified State Qualification Exam, 109 students of the Faculty of Dentistry and 22 students of the International Students Faculty were awarded the qualification of Dentist, Master of Dentistry.
