TNMU is Still Leading in the World Webometrics Ranking among Medical Universities of Ukraine

In the new version of the rating, Ternopil National Medical University is the second among medical universities of Ukraine and the twenty-first among 315 Ukrainian institutions of higher education. In total, this time the presentation in the web space was assessed for more than 30 thousand universities around the world.

The Webometrics ranking has been compiled since 2004 by one of the largest scientific institutions in Europe – the Spanish National Research Council.

The main purpose of the ranking is to promote academic presence on the Internet, maintaining open access to significantly increase the transfer of scientific and cultural knowledge among the universities around the world.

According to the authors, the Webometrics rating, evaluates all aspects of the university’s activity: scientific, educational, cultural, social, sports, etc. through independent web indicators and a science-based model. This is what distinguishing feature of this ranking regarding other Internet ratings.

When determining the position of the university in the ranking, the developers take into account the following indicators:

Excellence (or Scholar): the number of articles by scientists working at the university, which are among the top 10% of the most cited in 26 disciplines according to Scimago calculations for 2013-2017.

Presence: the number of pages in the institution domain (all subdomains and file types are taken into account) according to Google data.

Visibility: the number of external sources that contain backlinks to the university web pages, which is calculated using the Ahrefs.com external link analysis service and the Majestic link analysis system for search optimization and marketing on the Internet.
