TNMU Specialists Taught Schoolchildren to Save Lives

For more than 20 years, the World First Aid Day has been celebrated on the second Saturday of September. This year, on September 11, the professional medical organization National Resuscitation Council organized a national educational event “KIDS_SAVE_LIVES”. On that day, instructors from the European Resuscitation Council delivered 100 courses in schools in each region of Ukraine and taught 1,000 students aged 12 to 17 to save lives.

This event was supported by I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University in cooperation with the National Resuscitation Council. The employees of TNMU, who are instructors of the European Council of Resuscitation, organized a training course in two secondary schools in Ternopil and among members of the national scout organization of Ukraine “Plast”. Nargiz Javadova and Antonina Chervatiuk, Assistants Professors of the Department of Disaster and Military Medicine, as well as Roman Huk and Anastasia Hudyma, specialists of the TESMED TNMU Centre for Medical Simulation shared their experience and knowledge.

Young participants took a standardized European course on Basic Life Support by the European Resuscitation Council. For four hours, they practiced their skills of providing pre-medical care to the victim, i.e. to check consciousness and respiration, conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation, free the airways from foreign bodies, use an automatic external defibrillator.
