TNMU Held Ukrainian Easter Eggs Painting Workshop for Migrant Children

On April 15, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University held a workshop on Easter eggs painting for internally displaced families and all interested children and adults.

Natalia Rublevska, a lecturer at the Department of Fine Arts, Design and Methods of Their Teaching at Ternopil National Pedagogical University, told about the Ukrainian pysanka, the meaning of the signs and symbols on it, as well as the colours and types of painted eggs.

«I am glad that there is an opportunity to hold such workshops. It has been easy to work with the children and adults who were present today, all of them are extremely talented, diligent and focused on their work. They want to learn more about our traditions, ask questions, learn, I think that the new impressions, positive emotions and anticipation of the Easter holidays that we experience during such meetings are very necessary for all of us,” said Natalia Rublevska.

Each of the guests had the opportunity to prepare several Easter eggs, studying the suggested technique. Participants personally tried to go through all the stages of writing a real Easter egg: creating a pattern, applying wax, painting and final design.

“I really want the traditions of the Ukrainian people not to be forgotten. We believe that pysanka brings goodness, happiness, protects a person from all evil, is a kind of family talisman. Each pysanka is unique, with a special meaning,” said Marta Rudenko, Head of TNMU Centre for Educational Work and Cultural Development.

Most of the guests tried painting Easter eggs for the first time in their lives, but very skilfully created their first Easter attributes.

Victoria and her children came from Zhytomyr Region. They now live in Ternopil and do not miss any opportunity to learn something new. The woman did not even imagine that she would ever do such a thing. Artem and Lisa say that they will also put their Easter eggs in the holiday basket.

We thank the University administration, TNMU Press Secretary Yanina Chaikivska and craftswoman Natalia Rublevska for their help, support and active assistance for the training and wonderful time.
