TNMU Hosted Scientific and Applied Conference “Current Issues of Diagnosis, Treatment, Rational Pharmacotherapy, Prevention and Rehabilitation in the Practice of Family Doctor”
On June 23-24, 2022, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University hosted a scientific and applied conference with international participation “Current issues of diagnosis, treatment, rational pharmacotherapy, prevention and rehabilitation in the practice of family doctor.” The event was organized by TNMU Department of Therapy and Family Medicine together with the Public Organization “Association of Family Medicine of Ternopil Region”.

The meeting was held online and was attended by doctors and scientists from different parts of Ukraine and the world, in particular from Kyiv, Poltava, Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Uzhhorod, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Ivano-Frankivsk, as well as from the city of Braga (Portugal), more than 900 participants in total. During the meetings, 30 scientific reports were presented and discussed, and 5 workshops were held.
The Vice-Rector for Research of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, Honoured Master of Sciences and Technologies of Ukraine, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Ivan Klishch addressed the participants with a welcome speech on the behalf of the university administration.

“Today, we start our meeting along with the sounds of a siren, but we hope that the next scientific event, which is traditional for our university, will take place in free Ukraine. With the beginning of hostilities, the health care system entered a new reality, its functioning changed depending on where the health care facility is located and what functions it performs today. Therefore, I wish you effective discussions, new ideas and solutions in order to improve and adjust the provision of medical care in this difficult time,” said Professor Ivan Klishch.
Larysa Matiuk, Chief Specialist (therapist) of the Department of Health Care of the Ternopil Regional State Administration, congratulated the participants, guests and organizers on the opening of the conference. Larysa Matiuk noted that today Ukraine is living in difficult times, because, as for the last several years, our doctors are on the front lines of the fight, saving the lives of our brave soldiers, taking care of the physical and mental health of internally displaced persons.

Professor Ivan Katerenchuk, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 2 of Poltava State Medical University spoke on the topic “Modern peculiarities of the clinical picture, diagnosis and therapy of acute myocarditis (analysis of clinical cases)”.

The Head of the Department of Therapy and Family Medicine of TNMU, Professor Liliya Babinets, interested the conference participants with a speech on the topic: “Choosing an antihypertensive agent for the treatment of patients with a cardiovascular profile in general medical practice” and emphasized the fact that pharmacological treatment of cardiovascular diseases can significantly reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.

The Head of the Department of Higher Nursing Education, Patient Care and Clinical Immunology, Professor Igor Hospodarskyy, spoke about the possibilities of hepatotropic therapy in cancer patients with toxic liver damage.

The report “Examination of the functional capabilities of persons affected by craniocerebral trauma to establish the effectiveness of rehabilitation measures in conditions of uncertainty” was presented by the Head of the Department of Rehabilitation and Alternative Medicine of the Faculty of Postgraduate Education of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, Professor Lukyan Andriyuk.

Vadym Teryoshyn, Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases of Kharkiv National Medical University, highlighted the current issues of modern treatment and prevention of certain infections in the practice of a family doctor: evidence-based medicine data and opinions of international experts.

Andriy Mysak, Associate Professor of L. Ya. Kovalchuk Department of Surgery No.1, Urology, Minimally Invasive Surgery and Neurosurgery, TNMU, brought up the current topic “Plant prostate protectors in the complex treatment of chronic prostatitis”.

The report by Nadiya Yarema, Professor of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 1 of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, on the topic: “How to improve the prognosis for a patient with non-valvular atrial fibrillation in new realities?” presented specific interest.

The Head of TNMU Department of Internal Medicine No. 1, Professor Nadiya Pasyechko presented the report “Type 2 diabetes in the practice of a family doctor”.

Workshop on the topic of “COVID-19 and other infectious diseases in wartime. Clinical management of patients in outpatient practice” was conducted by Vasyl Kopcha, Professor of TNMU Department of Infectious Diseases with Epidemiology, Dermatology and Venerology.

Interest was aroused by the report of Professor of TNMU Department of Infectious Diseases with Epidemiology, Dermatology and Venerology Mariia Shkilna on the topic: “Skin manifestations of some tick-borne infections in the practice of a family doctor”.

During the workshop, the Head of TNMU Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive-Care Medicine, Professor Volodymyr Hnativ, spoke about the general principles of positive expiratory pressure breathing.

A relevant and interesting report on the topic “Doctors helping doctors: teaching and learning resilience in family medicine” was presented by Professor Yonah Yaphe, University of Minho (Braga, Portugal).

The Director of the Institute of Family Medicine of P. Shupyk National University of Health Care of Ukraine, Professor Oleh Shekera, reported on primary medical care as an important branch of the healthcare system of Ukraine.

Scientist Yelyzaveta Sirchak, Professor, Head of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases of Uzhhorod National University spoke on the topic “Reasonability of enzyme replacement therapy in patients with diabetes”.

Vasyl Mishchuk, Professor, Head of the Department of General Practice (Family Medicine), Physical Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University presented the report “Diverticular disease and diverticulosis in the practice of a family doctor”.

Scientific interest was aroused by the speech of Professor Liliya Babinets on the topic: “Principles of rational use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs”.

Natalia Botsyuk, Associate Professor of TNMU Department of Therapy and Family Medicine, spoke about the integrated management of childhood diseases in conditions of uncertainty.

Oksana Hlushok, Honoured Doctor of Ukraine, a dermatovenerologist of the highest category, conducted a workshop and presented a report “Management of the most common dermatoses in general medical practice”.

Professor Liliya Babinets summarized the work of the plenary and breakout sessions, thanked the university administration for their support and all the conference participants for effective and creative work in an extremely difficult time for Ukraine, and wished everyone victory.

The mode of the video conference enabled the participants not only to verbally present their scientific achievements, but at the same time became a platform for scientific discussion, joint watching and effective discussion of video fragments and presentations.
