TNMU Students Delivered Lectures for High School Students

Students of Ternopil National Medical University continue to implement a number of educational projects. In particular, on October 22, 27 and 28, 2022, representatives of the Faculty of Medicine Daryna Kaminska, Anna Shkrobot, Anastasia Shkrobot, Valeriia Blahuliak held educational lectures for students of the tenth and eleventh grades of Ternopil Academic Lyceum “Genesis” and Ternopil Secondary School № 23. Delivering lectures and communication with high school students took place within the framework of the “Sex education” project. This time, more than 100 high school students were involved in the lectures.

In today’s world, one of the problems is the acceleration of adolescents, which leads to an early entry into sexual life. This is the cause of teenage abortions, early motherhood, and the increase in the number of patients with sexually transmitted diseases. Unfortunately, most parents and teachers are embarrassed to talk to children about such topics, and in schools, teachers cannot correctly convey the necessary information to teenagers. The goal of this project is to increase the level of awareness of teenagers regarding various sensitive issues.

The lecture discussed such issues as the structure of the male and female reproductive system, preparation for the first sexual relations, the need for contraception, the importance of timely diagnosis of venereal diseases, and the correct use of condoms was demonstrated on the model.

Starting from 2020, students of our university hold such lectures in senior classes of various institutions of general education in Ternopil and Ternopil region. In total, future doctors have delivered 64 educational lectures. Students diligently do this, relying on their knowledge of medicine.

According to project organizer Daryna Kaminska, the schoolchildren really liked the presented material, they were interested throughout the lesson and asked a lot of questions. Most of the questions related to popular myths from social networks, which once again emphasizes the need for educational projects related to sex education.

The information was provided by Daryna Kaminska, a sixth-year student.
