Art Therapy Event for Patients of the Children’s Psychiatric Department

On March 28, 2023, students of group 404 of the Faculty of Dentistry together with the Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology, and Medical Psychology of Ternopil National Medical University Marianna Koval organized an art therapy event for patients of the Children’s Psychiatric Department of the Ternopil Regional Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital.

Students, together with children, created patriotic drawings to thank our defenders and strive to make our country better.

For children, any creative activity is always fun, pleasant and useful for the development of both fine motor skills and higher mental functions. Drawing helps to solve many psychological problems: reduce the level of anxiety, aggressiveness, impulsivity, help to harmonize the mental state, relieve psychosomatic tension, raise the level of self-esteem, overcome children’s fears and other difficulties.

Art therapy techniques work on a non-verbal level, so they are good to use with children who do not speak well. This is relevant for diagnosis and correction. Classes allow children to express their emotions, feelings by means of drawing.
