Associate Professor of TNMU Department of Public Health and Health Care Management Participated in the Seminar “Research Methods of Global Health”
On May 21-25, 2023, a scientific and applied seminar “Research Methods of Global Health” was held at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (Georgia). The event was organized within the framework of the “Building Academic Capacity in Global Health in the Eastern Europe-Central Asia Region (BACE)” project, which is implemented by the Erasmus+ KA2 CBHE program. TNMU is a partner of this project.

Yurii Petrashyk, Associate Professor of the Department of Public Health and Health Care Management of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, who is one of the participants of the above-mentioned BACE project, represented TNMU in the scientific and applied seminar.

This seminar was an intermediate stage of large-scale cooperation between nine universities from five countries (Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Norway and Germany) with the aim of building academic potential in the field of global health and developing the curriculum “Research methods in the field of global health” for masters, post-graduate students, intern doctors.

During the seminar aimed at building the potential of teachers regarding pedagogical and methodological approaches, the participants had a chance to listen to lectures and presentations by colleagues from the Department of Community Medicine of the Arctic University of Norway: Associate Professor Kristin Benjaminsen Borch, Associate Professor Karin Charlotta Maria Rylander and Associate Professor Erik Eik Anda, to participate in trainings and discussions.

Lectures were held on the following topics: “Fundamentals of scientific knowledge and learning”, “Systematic literature search”, “Qualitative methods/mixed research methods”, “Basics of critical evaluation”, “Systematic errors in publications”, “Familiarity with tools for critical evaluation”, “Fundamentals of scientific writing”, “Systematic errors in publications/quality of publication/plagiarism”, “Fundamentals of writing protocol/documentation of a scientific project. Writing an Introduction and Research Tasks”. After each lecture, exercises were conducted for the practical application of the studied material.

During the group discussions, the seminar participants discussed the features and methods of student evaluation in the presented educational institutions, as well as how students evaluate the quality of teaching subjects and how, based on this evaluation, the institutions improve the educational process. After the seminar, plans and tasks for the next meeting of all project participants scheduled for May 2023 were formulated and pre-discussed.

It should be reminded that the previous scientific and applied seminar within the framework of the BACE project took place on March 26-30, 2023 at the University of Georgia in Tbilisi (Georgia).
