TNMU Teacher Took Part in EASL SLD Summit 2023
On September 21 – 23, 2023, Lina Bahniy, Assistant Professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology No. 2, took part in the International Summit of the European Association for the Study of the Liver “EASL SLD 2023”, which took place in Prague (Czech Republic).
Assistant Bahniy L.V. as a member of the EASL Association.
The EASL SLD 2023 Summit is the main event of the year on steatotic liver disease (SLD), which is undoubtedly one of the greatest challenges facing the hepatology community and remains a major public health problem worldwide. The main risk factors are alcohol and metabolic factors. The latter, formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), has recently been renamed and redefined as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).
Presentation of the new nomenclature in hepatology to the medical community.
Despite numerous knowledge gaps and awareness challenges, the industry is constantly moving forward thanks to the tremendous efforts of many stakeholders. Great progress has been made in understanding the disease and how to treat it, from cell plates and organoids to animal models to people living with MASLD, from natural history to prognosis, from prevention to diagnosis, treatment and care.
The EASL SLD 2023 Summit, held this year in Prague, discussed the latest innovations and ideas in MASLD, combining high-tech research methodology with clinical implications, basic research with real-world patient experience, challenging clinical trial issues with disease awareness and guideline and policy change. One of the main areas of the event was the discussion of the change in the new nomenclature: the study of SLD in people who combine alcohol consumption and metabolic risk factors recorded as MetALD.
Professor Vlad Ratziu (France) during the report on “Lipid metabolism targeting drugs for MASH”.
In order to improve professional qualifications and share experience regarding diagnosis, counselling and treatment of MASLD during pregnancy, Lina Bahniy presented an E-poster report on the topic “Cytokine’s level during the pregnancy with MASH and obesity under the developed complex therapy program”, reflecting the results of a scientific research within the framework of the dissertation paper. This work received a grant for free publication to the scientific base “EASL SLD Summit 2023” and continued membership of the European Association for the Study of the Liver.
During the discussion panel presenting the results of the research, Assist. Prof L. V. Bahniy with Prof. Mojgan Masoodi (Switzerland).
This event is an international scientific discussion platform that highlights the importance of coming together again for more meaningful interaction, communication and a better exchange of ideas. The EASL SLD 2023 Summit brought together 514 delegates from 58 countries who are involved in the fight against steatotic liver disease, including clinicians, researchers, and industry professionals.
The “EASL SLD Summit 2023” program included 29 panel discussion platforms, covering a wide range of topics, including issues of epidemiology and the spread of the disease, pathogenetic chains of formation of steatosis and fibrosis of the liver parenchyma, non-invasive diagnostics of steatotic liver disease. Specialists paid special attention to nutritional problems, alcohol and toxic fumes as cofactors in the development of steatotic liver disease.
It was a pleasant opportunity to discuss new key pathogenetic approaches in the treatment of pregnant women with steatotic liver disease with the leading leader of hepatology, Prof. Mary Rinella (USA).
This event is really unique with an opportunity to get acquainted with the current challenges of this issue, pathogenetic mechanisms of the disease, biomarkers and treatment models, study the latest therapeutic developments, learn about the future of treatment in multidisciplinary approaches based on clinical cases.
The participant expresses her deepest appreciation to the administration of Ternopil National Medical University and the scientific coordinator of EASL “SLD Summit 2023” Celine Santo for support, assistance and the opportunity to participate in the International Summit of the European Association for the Study of the Liver and present the results of the scientific research on an international scientific platform.
