Academic Staff of the Institute of Nursing Participated in Training ”Staff Care and Prevention of Professional Burnout”
On September 4-5, 2024, academic staff of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Nursing of TNMU participated in the online training ”Staff Care and Prevention of Professional Burnout,” organized by the Psychiatry and Neurology Department of the Charite Clinic (Berlin, Germany).
The training was carried out as part of the “SOLOMIYA” project, which aims to strengthen the long-term medical and psychosocial infrastructure in Ukraine with the assistance of the Hospital Partnerships network.
Caring for the mental well-being of healthcare professionals is essential to providing high-quality patient care. Created by the psychologist Beata Trylesnyk, the training was specially designed for medical personnel working in Ukraine. The training aimed to teach healthcare professionals about stress and burnout prevention and also showed valuable strategies for developing healthy lifestyle habits and practicing relaxation/mindfulness techniques.

Psychiatrist Kateryna Huzenko, who conducted the training together with the participants, considered the following issues:
– Requirements of the medical profession. Assessment of stress, burnout, and trauma-related symptoms. Self-assessment regarding stress.
– Methods of counteraction at work: organization of working hours, communication in the work team. Personal assessment: changes at work. Prevention of burnout: motivation.
– Self-care strategies. The current ratio of requirements and resources. Reducing requirements. Building up resources: physical aspects – sleep, rest, social contacts. Transition to a balanced lifestyle.
– Strategies for coping with stress. Calming practices: muscle relaxation, breathing exercises, and activation of sensory channels. Personal assessment: practice calming, non-judgmental acceptance of one’s feelings and self-support practices.
During the training, the participants tried to use various relaxation techniques, particularly muscle relaxation and breathing exercises and shared information about their relaxation methods.
The importance of creating personal techniques for overcoming stress and preventing professional burnout was considered.
