Guarantor of the “Prosthetics and Orthotics” Program Professor Tetiana Bakaliuk Participatedin the Meeting of the Working Group Chaired by the Minister of Health

On September 18, 2024, a working group meeting was held at the University Clinic of Kharkiv National Medical University to determine the supporting centers for the training of prosthetists and orthotists.

At the meeting, Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko noted: “For the first time this year, we made a state order for the training of prosthetists-orthetists for four medical universities – in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, and Ternopil. We need a clear program that will meet today’s challenges and will be approved by European international associations so that the certificate we issue is recognized abroad.”

The guarantor of the “Prosthetics and Orthotics” program at Ternopil National Medical University, Professor of the Medical Rehabilitation Department Tetiana Bakaliuk presented the report “Experience of the Implementation of Master’s Training in the Specialty “Technology of Medical Diagnostics and Treatment,” Specialization “Prosthetics and Orthotics” of the Educational and Professional Program “Prosthetics and Orthotics”.

The report included information on the educational process at the university in the specialization “Prosthetics and Orthotics” and presented suggestions for improving education according to this program.

The guarantors of the programs of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, Kharkiv and Lviv National Medical Universities, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the School of Rehabilitation Sciences (Human Study) also presented their reports.

The meeting participants visited the departments of the University Clinic, where the work of the mobile clinical prosthetics and orthotics laboratory was demonstrated. It was opened with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ukraine. The resource of the mobile laboratory is 15 patients per month. A mobile laboratory is a temporary solution. After the completion of the renovation on the second floor of the main building of the University Clinic at the end of 2024, it will be moved to the renovated premises, and the number of patients will increase to 25 people per month.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the current problems of training prosthetists and orthotics specialists, got acquainted with international experience and best practices, and outlined directions for further joint activities.
