Mykhailo Korda Presented the Experience of TNMU in the Implementation of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program at the Meeting of Rectors of Medical Universities

On September 16-18, 2024, rectors of medical universities participated in a meeting in Kyiv called “Integration of Higher Educational Institutions into the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program – an Initiative of the First Lady Olena Zelenska.” It was organized by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Coordination Center for Mental Health initiative with the support of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and representative offices of the All-Ukrainian Organization for Health Protection in Ukraine.

Mykhailo Korda presented the experience of TNMU in implementing the All-Ukrainian mental health program and the university program, which aim at improving the mental health of employees and students of the university, as well as residents of the Ternopil region.

The participants discussed in detail the implementation of the WHO mhGAP program at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels of medical education. This program is part of the All-Ukrainian mental health program “How are you?” and aims to increase the access of patients with mental disorders to qualified care by involving general practitioners. The training of such specialists is possible thanks to the educational activities of medical educational institutions. The director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Mental Health of Bohomolets National Medical University, Professor Oleh Chaban, shared the experience of integrating mhGAP into academic programs.

Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko outlined the task of training specialists and improving the qualifications of existing personnel for the full and effective implementation of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program.

Considerable attention was also focused on the development of specialized psychiatric care.
